Stop Second Guessing Yourself

Last Saturday I ran the Salt Lake City half marathon. All the way up till race day I was second guessing myself. To be honest till mile 4 I was second guessing myself. Once I got a hang of things and stepped into my rhythm, I felt great. Till I hit mile 11 and the uphill till the finish began. I pushed through and finished strong.  That afternoon I went to a yoga class which I think is what saved me from next day soreness. New discovery- A good stretch will help with next day soreness. Yoga has many benefits for runners. Next time you race try following it with a yoga class.

Thanks to my family and friends I pushed through and finished feeling GREAT!

Who do you race for?

In my yoga classes I ask people to identify their intention before the beginning of their yoga practice. Same goes to a race. I truly believe you should know your goal before you race. What are you racing for? Is it the beginning of your season and are you trying to gauge where you are at (my goal for instance)? Are you racing to set a new PR? Or are you racing to finish and accomplish for yourself.

I see endurance sports as a race against SELF. It truly is about you and remind yourself that, when people start passing you! At least that’s what I tell myself. The goal is to stay healthy, avoid injury and feel good.
